Driving and healing

Sunday, June 29, Dickinson, ND

For Miss MaggyD

We are on our way back to Red Wing to pick up the pieces and make some decisions.  Julie is starting to feel more like herself.  The stress of the injury combined with the trip to Helena really wore her out.  Her arm is still pretty nasty looking, but the wound is healing, and she is slowly starting to move her fingers and wrist.  There are a couple of movements she can’t do yet, but the doctor said, “six to eight weeks with NO lifting, you have to let it heal.”  After that there will be therapy.  And we know that “six to eight weeks” is a best guess.  It might take longer.

Saturday night. The swelling is definitely going down. We just have to make up a good story: Julie was surfing in Nebraska and a shark jumped out of the corn field and bit her arm! That'll do.

The doctor’s appointment we had to come back to Helena for went well, we had breakfast with John and Deb and JR and Lisa beforehand.  It was good to see all of them and we would have loved to have seen other friends, but Julie was wiped out.  She slept all afternoon on Friday after her appointment.

Friday night. We are living in 2025, we've seen Star Trek and have microwave ovens. We think everything should take less time, but healing will not. Gotta be patient.

Because Julie is still in recovery mode, we are only going to Alexandria, MN today, about a 6-hour trip.  We’ll get to Red Wing Monday morning.  Thanks for all your prayers and support!  I’ll take some detailed photos of the back of the boat to hopefully fill in the blanks you might have about Julie’s fall.

Blessings to all ya’ll!

Thanks so much for sharing the Miles City Air Force Station (previously Miles City Air Force Base) picture. My dad will love the picture I’ll send him. He was a radar man (radar Airman?) in the USAF from 1955 to 1975.
