Biscuit's exciting day

Monday, June 16, Red Wing, MN. A great day for driving the boat!  Again, driving the boat is easy.  Biscuit does it half the time.  It’s docking the boat, pulling into a slip (especially backwards) that is the tricky part.  Newer boats with their newfangled dang technology have joystick controls along with front and rear thrusters.  I have a steering wheel, but more importantly, I have two transmissions.  If I can maneuver the boat with just the transmissions and engine power, than I can call myself Keith.  (Which is what I call myself anyways…).

A beautiful day on the Mighty Mississippi!
A beautiful day on the Mighty Mississippi!

We’ve had winds and storms for the past several days, it has been rough to just sit in boat in our slip and practice being retired.  But our waste tank was getting full and the weather looked good for this morning, so I decided that we’d at least go pump the tanks.  We pulled out pretty easy and without too much swearing, docked at the Marina.  Julie was sitting up front and said it was extremely smooth.

Father's Day was a great day for all of us.
Father's Day was a great day for all of us.

After we pumped out, using just the transmissions, we worked our way back to the slip, turned around, and backed in – again with very little swearing.  A good run!  I didn’t even tie up, we pulled out, hit the river for a bit, and noticed that the clouds looked awfully dark just west of Red Wing.  So we turned around and headed back in.  The winds had picked up somewhat, but we still backed right into the slip with ease and dare I say (dare, dare!) panache.  A ha!  Take that, somebody!

A neighbor boater came over to help with the lines.  His boat is a 50-footer, he said “the only times I ever come in that smoothly, no one is around to see it!”  That felt pretty good.  It started spitting rain as we were tying up, we got back just in time to watch the storm bluster through.  Biscuit did get some gabapentin, though, so he is a stoned dog.

Like, far out, man...

Before we pulled out, I was walking Biscuit in the field across the street.  We can usually be off-leash as there is rarely any other people or dogs around.  I noticed Biscuit looking real peculiar at something on the ground, so my brain said “snake.”  As soon as my brain says that, my body says “outta here” and “pee your pants.”  As I was doing both of those, my brain still turned my head back to see what it was and if Biscuit was going to take one for the team.  Turns out it was just a turtle.  Haha!  Wasted that set of formerly clean undies on a turtle.

Blessings to all ya’ll!!
